UTOPIO Difference

Our disruptive technology improved over decades of mechanical engineering design research... this ASC technology is protected by 16 internationally registered patents.

UTOPIO ASC powered by ASC technology produces 3x the heat on only 20% of the land required by traditional CSP technologies (Parabolic Trough / Solar Tower) and 33% of the land required for PV (photovoltaic) resulting in significantly lower CAPEX and operational costs while featuring modularity and scalability.

While existing CSP technologies (including Heliostat Towers, Linear Troughs, and Parabolic Troughs) are only cost-effective at utility-level applications, UTOPIO ASC powered by ASC technology is uniquely modular and scalable. This allows us to effectively and affordably power industrial and microgrid projects as small as 30kW to as large as 50MW. This technology affords reliable and cost-effective power solutions to individual factories, hotels, remote installations, etc.

The modular nature of our projects not only requires significantly less acreage to produce a given amount of energy and heat, but the land need not be contiguous. Thus, construction and operation on terrains, such as rocky hillsides, coastal easements, non-contiguous municipal lots, etc., opens up broader opportunities previously unobtainable by CSP.

ASC

The ASC is a new technology in Solar Energy that combines the advantages of PV and CSP while eliminating the problems.

ASC Solution

ASC's technology provides the industrial process heating capabilities of conventional CSP coupled with the modularity of PV (photovoltaic).
Ultra-high solar efficiency with a solar-electrical conversion between 40%-50%, the highest in history.
Low-cost long duration energy storage for 24/7/365 production.
Uses 1/3rd the land required by PV.
Produces heat at temperatures between 700-1,100°C

PV (PhotoVoltaics)

Collects: Large sun-tracking mirrors, called heliostats, concentrate sunlight onto a receiver at the top of the tower.
Heats: The thermal energy heats a filler material, such as molten salt, which then heats a working fluid.
Stores: Thermal energy is stored in the molten salt, so it can be used for electricity generation as needed.
Generates: The working fluid, water, is heated to power a steam turbine, generating electricity.
Distributes: Electricity is sent to the grid on demand.

CSP uses solar thermal energy to produce steam, which in turn is used to generate electricity. The creation of steam as a byproduct gives CSP unmatched versatility and compatibility in the field of renewable technology, since CSP can share the hardware of traditional fossil based (i.e. coal, natural gas, biofuel) plants, which also utilize steam to generate electricity.
In the United States alone, between 11 and 21 gigawatts of CSP could be built and integrated into existing fossil fuel plants in the United States to reduce their carbon emissions – that’s enough electricity to power between 3 million and 6 million homes.

Grid Stability & Resilience

As demand for electricity increases, existing utilities more frequently approach their limits for grid stability. CSP plants and thermal energy storage (TES) solutions can be used to provide on-demand clean energy to alleviate stress upon the grid and optimize electricity production during peak hours.
